Men's Retreat 2013 1.5

Ya know, sometimes I think I’m afraid of coming to events where I know God is going to show up because of what He is going to do in my heart through the preaching. Once again He has shown his love for me and had the very first sermons pointed right at me.

Tony Shirley started the night off with a sermon titled “In the Valley”. The Whole thought process started the focus on the fact that the world watches us all the time, but especially when we are in the valley. They are truly looking to see if we really believe in what we say. Not only that, they are many times honestly looking for the answer to their troubles. He continued on and focused on the fact that we need to not only show up in the valley, but to stand strong. It is not going to be easy for sure, but we are not alone. Many times God has us there for two reasons. One is to show Himself and His power to the world and to magnify the strength we have through Him. Other times he just wants to show Himself strong to us. Oh how many times I have needed that in my life.

Danny Whetstone then preached a great sermon as well. Once again tailored by God to hit me square between the eyes, right where I needed it. The phrase he used that got me the most was words written by Paul in the scriptures “As much as in me is”. I never looked at it the way he preached it tonight. Most of the time I looked at it from the “spiritual” side of With God in me I can do anything. Tonight he pointed out that there is the “human” side to it as well. God has blessed me with a particular skill set. I am tailored to a certain task; I am not designed to do the tasks God has for others. So I now have a new way of looking at a part of scripture again. What a blessing to look at it and be able to take it as my own. “As much as in me is” I am ready. God has given me the skills I need; I am ready to use them for His honor and glory.

Right now I am thinking it will make a great motto for my bus route. Let’s see what God has for me coming tomorrow and Saturday morning.

Laterz……
